Spanish/English Interpreting and Translating
Translating and interpreting are two closely related professions in which a language is translated into another. However, there are some substantial differences which make it necessary for the professional to have a good understanding of the language but often a distinct set of skills.

Turning written works from one language to another Translators usually work from home on their computers, translating documents from one language to another and tend to specialize in a specific subject or field. Translators will work on written works such as books, legal documents, essays, instruction manuals, websites and various other types of written information.
As a translator, one must excel in an understanding of the language and the culture from where it came and be fluent in reading and writing both the source and target languages for which he/she is translating. Additionally, a good translator will always have reliable reference materials at hand such as dictionaries and grammatical guides for quick reference. Through the use of these tools, a good translator will produce a clean and accurate product ready for the client to use.

Providing the meaning of spoken word, verbally, from one language to another
Like translating, an interpreter needs to have an extensive vocabulary of the subject matter he or she is interpreting. The use of such knowledge usually comes into play during an appointment in a professional setting such as in a courtroom, attorney’s office, doctor’s office, etc. Thus, the relayed information must come instantly and accurately.
Experienced interpreters should be armed with a good memory, a well developed speaking voice, good public speaking skills and a wealth of knowledge regarding colloquialisms in both languages, all in order to ensure a good understanding between all parties. It is also key for any highly experienced interpreter to be able to interpret from one language to the other on the spot, without the use of dictionaries or other reference guides to keep up with the flow of the conversation, often interpreting simultaneously, as each party speaks.

The conversion of spoken word into written form
As with translating one must not only have a good bank of references but of knowledge and terminology dealing with the specific field they will transcribe as well as a good ear for such terminology when listening to the audio. Transcribing can often come in the form of a recording made by a doctor’s report, a business meeting, an attorney’s deposition and many others.
More often, an audio recording comes in the same language as it will be transcribed. However, some audio recordings are recorded in one language and require translation into another. Many of the language skills required for an interpreter become vital to the successful translation and transcription of such an audio recording.
